YOU: Hey there. My name is Mrs. Jansen and I teach a 2nd grade class at (school name and location).
This school year we’re learning a lot about history. The kids love it.
My dream is to take them to a civil war reenactment a couple towns over. Only problem is it costs fifty bucks for each student to attend and we need a Charter bus.
That’s where you come in. I could really use your help. So click on my project to fund it and please spread the word.
My kids thank you!

I couldn't imagine being anything other than an educator. I love being in the classroom and working to make a difference in the lives of my students. Students deserve the very best, but providing the basics has become financially difficult. I cannot make up the difference on my own. The things that I request are for the education of my students. I am working to continue to have a classroom that challenges my students on every level. I have recently changed districts and had to leave many of my supplies behind. Thank you for helping me make a difference in the lives of our students. Without your support, my students wouldn't have access to many of the wonderful supplies and technology we have.
Do you remember opening your first bank account? How nervous and excited you were? Were you fortunate enough to have someone helping you, walking you through it? Today's students need that same assistance to learn to become financial literate.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds. Many times they are switching schools every year because many are military. When they miss a portion of the year sometimes they miss important units, such as the financial literacy unit. By enacting the EverFi curriculum I can help our students fill in those gaps, no matter when they transfer in. The EverFi digital curriculum will allow the students to run through a variety of scenarios, at their individual pace, to learn about credit, checking and savings accounts, mortgages, certificate of deposits, and several other things that will allow them to be more financially literate. This will allow the students to achieve the knowledge missed at anytime during the year.
Financial literacy, or lack there of, has been a main stream problem in the United States for the past several years. Individuals eager to buy their first homes agree to mortgages they won't be able to afford due to changing APR. Individuals will apply for credit cards that they do not have a clear understanding of.
Help me change the financial literacy of our future, one class at a time. The future of their finances will have a direct impact on the economy of the future as well. Help me impact the future economy.
My students are extremely diverse. Many come from families that move around often and do not set roots down long enough to learn about financial literacy. By providing them the opportunity to use this curriculum, at any time during the year, they will gain the knowledge of mortgages, loans, credit cards, APRs, banking, and other things that will help them become financially sound citizens. The curriculum will always be available, not matter when they arrive to learn it.
Have you ever had that moment when you walk into a meeting or a party ans had been expected to bring something and you forgot? Maybe you just used that as an excuse because you honestly could not afford to get that item. This is happening more often in the classroom and it is impacting our students.
Our student body is very diverse. If you walk into my classroom, on any given day, you will find a room full of students with genetic connections from around the world, students will disabilities sitting next to students who excel and are gifted and talented, students who have parents who are in the military, students who have been or are homeless, a student who has recently lost their home in a fire, and a student who has recently been hit by car that did not stop to help. We are a community that is diverse in many ways. Among this diversity are students who are having difficulties in purchasing supplies for school.
The diversity among our students is a positive thing. These students will be the leaders of tomorrow and need the experience that this diversity provides them . This diversity works when every student can participate without reservations of their own. When a student feels as if they cannot participate because of financial concerns, the student misses out on the experience and is unable to focus on the tasks at hand. By being able to provide supplies, the student does not feel as if they stand out because no one knows who didn't bring anything. They feel as if they are on an equal playing field. They feel, at ease. A student who feels at ease is a student who can concentrate on their education needs because they do not need to focus on their supply needs.
Education is the key to success future. Studies have shown that a high school diploma leads to a more productive citizen. The student who needs the education the most, the low income student, is the student most apt to not get an education do to financial woes. By providing some of these supplies such as paper and gluesticks, the education of these students, therefore the future of these students, are directly impacted. Impact a student, impact the future, please help us purchase these supplies.
My students are in need of these crates, drawers, and hanging kits to help us organize our materials. In order to learn, students need a safe and organized learning environment.
My students are enthusiastic tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders, who, despite their age, enjoy hands on activities and showing off their work. They come from a variety of backgrounds. We have military students, special education students, honors students, AVID students, and students from very diverse cultures. One thing they all have in common is that they love to see their work displayed.
The crates and drawers will allow us to have easy access to the supplies we need to work on projects within the classroom. Having the hanging kits will all us to effectively use the wall space that we do have to display the various products that the students produce. These items will also help us to create an organized and clutter free classroom.
This project is important because it will provide us materials that will allow us to organize our classroom by giving a place to our materials that are in need of a place to call home. My students will be thankful for these materials because they will instantly see their impact in the classroom, the classroom will be more organized and less cluttered.
Do you remember sitting down and losing yourself in a book? Imagining what the characters look like, how their voices sound, and what the scenery looked and smelled like. Students today need to have those moments too.
Reading levels are lower than grade level, imaginations need sparked, the desire to learn needs to be tended, these are the things I want to work on for my students.
My students come from a large number of different backgrounds. Our campus has several different ethnic groups, over 20 languages are spoken on our campus, we have English Language Learners, military family members, special education students, and gifted students as well.
Getting this large groups of diverse students to understand issues from the perspective of others is sometimes very difficult. One way to help the understanding is to have a variety of books on hand for them to choose to read that center around these differences.
By allowing the students to choose which books they read, the student has some ownership in their reading and learning. These books will reach out to the reluctant learner through the ebooks and the tactile learners through the hand held books.
These books will give each student a different perspective of the African American struggle for civil rights, the women's struggle for equality, and even the struggles of immigrants.
Without knowledge the students will not have an understanding of others. Without an understanding of others they can never be true leaders. Without true leaders, where will our society be in 25 years? Reading is the gateway to knowledge. Once the student has crossed into this gateway their success are unlimited.
Have you ever tried to pay attention to something, anything, when there are 25 or more individuals in a room with you? Add in trying to learn something while others are in the room also trying to listen to what is happening on their screens. It is impossible to listen intently without headphones in.
Our campus is made up an extremely diverse population. This sets up for a wonderful opportunity to experience a variety of cultures and ideas. Providing individualized learning opportunities for our students, such as those who come from military families, are recent immigrants, are English Language Learners, are special education students, or even members of our AVID and gifted and talented programs, is difficult. It is made even more challenging when the students don't have or forget to bring their headphones to class to listen to their individual lesson without disturbing others.
Individualized and differentiated lessons are difficult to accomplish among a large group of students. I have been able to find a way to allow the students to progress at their own pace and at their own levels. However, the competing lessons are prohibiting the students from fully being able to concentrate on their own lessons. Being able to readily provide headphones for the students will allow every student in the room to be able to concentrate on the individual lesson in front of them and not be distracted by the teaching around them.
What is stopping the students from being able to give their full attention to the lesson in from of them? Can you believe, the lessons being taught around them. My students need the headphones to be able to concentrate on the most important words in the room for them, their individual lesson. Please help me give them these small things with a big impact!
Keeping a family healthy is tough, keeping a family of 150 healthy is really tough. While trying to keep that large family healthy, keeping them supplied with the things they need while in the classroom can be a real challenge.
My students come from a variety of homes and backgrounds. We have military students, low socioeconomic students, learning challenged students, and students who are new to the country. Many of them have a hard time getting the pens, pencils, and paper that they need for school. Asking them to provide tissues and and other small things seems to be more than anyone should ask of them. The small things add up fast and they should not have to choose between lunch and supplies. There are many hurdles they have to jump through due to their economical problems.
It is tough trying to provide supplies for my students, who cannot provide for themselves. I have purchased many supplies out of my own pocket, but it is getting tougher. Staplers break from heavy use, tissues are needed for the sniffles, cleaning supplies are needed to wipe down desks, and the school doesn't provide enough of these when they do supply them.
They have enough hurdles to jump through, providing them with some of the basic supplies such as pens, colored pencils to use in the classroom, and scissors allows them to have less hurdles to face in order to have a productive time in the classroom. Students need to be able to participate in class activities without the fear of finances.
The students of today are tomorrow's leaders. The idea of "pay it forward" does mean something to them. They realize that things that are given to them have an impact on them and do come at a cost. They realize that the generosity they are shown now is a bill that they need to be pay in the future, when they are in the position to, by helping out people who are less fortunate. Students of today must be invested in so that they will have the opportunity to invest in future generations
My students have a hard time remembering things they have been taught. Making lessons hands on helps them learn it. Having them teach it, they own it.
The students at our school are very diverse. They are diverse in their language skills, over 30 languages are spoken among our students. They are diverse in the various ethnic groups represented. They are diverse in the places they have lived, we have many military students among our ranks. Where they are not so different is in their need to produce to learn. Being hands on allows them to own the knowledge.
I am requesting some of the materials my students need to present information regarding the Civil Rights. Each student is to be paired with another and they will research an individual who was significant is the Civil Rights Movement and they will then teach the class about their individual.
The class will then be able to piece the individuals together to see the progress that was made through the lives of these individuals that they have taught about and were taught about by their peers.
Giving the students the chance to be responsible for teaching information to their peers is providing them with the sense of responsibility for providing their peers with knowledge. This not only improves them as an individual, but as a scholar as well. As they strive to become more mature, they will succeed in all they do.
There is so much technology out there. That's the problem, so much out there, not enough in our classroom. The technology we do have does not have the ability to access some of the educational and engaging applications that are available. Even so there isn't enough to go around.
Our student body is very diverse. We educate children of military members, International Baccalaureate students, AVID students, students of all levels of learning, hearing impaired students, students from many walks of life, Special Education students, physically challenged students, however the majority of the students have one thing that pulls them all together; they come from economically disadvantaged homes. Our school works hard to promote learning across the board. Our students have risen to meet these demands. The one thing they have asked of us is to not stand there and just lecture to them. They ask that we make the lessons entertaining as well as educational. That we use the technology that they will be using in the workplace later, in lessons now.
Having the technology in the room to grab and holding their attention is wonderful. iPads have the amazing capability to draw students in. It is not only another modality to capture student attention and engage them in learning, but it is technology that is being used in the workforce today. The iPad allows students to take a hands-on approach in that they can manipulate information. The Apple TV will allow us to share with the entire class at once. Having the technology at our disposal, instantly, will make lessons more meaningful and transitions run smooth. All of this impacts the students education and prepares them for the workforce through their comfort of use of the technology.
Please help my classroom take an apple-sized bite into the world of technology! Your donations will allow my students to have everyday access to the current application and future applications that will take their learning to a higher level. Using educational applications can have on an enormous impact on a student's learning potential and their future use of technology. Your donation can bring that same level of impact to my students.
How many times have you heard that there are two sides to every story? Getting students to understand history is tough, having them analyze is it even tougher, getting them to analyze it from two viewpoints is difficult without the primary documents that compares the issues.
We have students from a variety of backgrounds, who are in a variety of places in life. In one class alone, I have English language learners, military family members, Advanced Placement, Special Education, and IB students, and sole supporter of their families. Money should not limit education.
Many of these students come from low income homes, where the family cannot provide for things beyond the essentials. The students have not be placed in a position where they must analyze the past. This is essential in raising their knowledge of the past as well as their communication skills.
Students do not get to venture out past their living rooms to peer into the past. They think they know what happened in the past because they have seen it on TV. They don't realize that in order to truly understand the past they must read the words of those who lived it.
Opposing Viewpoints is a set of books that introduces the students to the important historical topics as presented by those who lived it. Primary documents put the students in the moment. Opposing Viewpoints puts the students in the argument.
These books will allow the students to read what was being thought at the time the events were occurring and analyze information from both sides of the argument in order to draw their own conclusions about the events of the past. This will allow them to write better essays and have more meaningful conversations about the events.
Primary documents, secondary documents, firsthand accounts, interpretation, analyzing, determining what the individuals who lived it thought and why. This is what history class brings to our students. Our students are the leaders of tomorrow, it is essential that they understand the leaders of the past to avoid the mistakes of these who have walked before them.
Our students need you assistance in being good leaders, knowledgeable leader. These books will bring the past into their lives.
Our students see waste every day. They understand that the future depends on what is happening today. They also realize that they cannot change this on their own, it must be a collective effort. They want to make collective effort to recycle paper, plastics, and aluminum at school.
The majority our students come from low income homes. In fact, over 80& of our student body is eligible for free or reduced lunch.
They understand what waste is and are discouraged by the amount of waste that occurs within the school setting. They have asked why we do not have a recycling program in place and what it would take to get one started.
The students want to make a lasting impact on our school, our community, on our world.
Without the materials to start this program, the program may never get off and running. The students have learned that these blue bins make an impact in every room that they are set in. Students in these classrooms see that they are making an Impact to reduce, not only their carbon imprint, but the imprint of the campus.
Right now, there aren't enough funds to get the program up and running. Yet, the program will fund itself, once it is up and running. The students feel like they are in a no win situation. They need your help to turn this around and to begin reducing the waste produced by this one campus.
Recycling needs to become second nature. These students want to make that happen in our school. Recycling bins are needed to begin reducing the amount of paper, plastics, and aluminum, that make it to the landfill from our campus.
Our students are trying to teach the campus to think about our environment. Please help them get their message across.
We have students from a variety of backgrounds, who are in a variety of places in life. In my classes I have English Language Learners, military family members, Advanced Placement, Special Education, and IB students, many are the sole supporter of their families. Money should not limit education.
My students come from economically, disadvantaged homes. Many of them have a hard time getting the pens, pencils, and paper that they need for school. There are many hurdles they have to jump through due to their economical problems.
The students can be a little tough, but beneath this exterior are kids who just need that added push to excel.
Without the supplies students are behind the curve and feel as if they never get caught up. This really does have an impact on their self esteem. They don't feel as if they have the same opportunities as those who have supplies.
Many of my students have a difficult time purchasing the normal school supplies. It is difficult to ask them to purchase supplies that don't normally go on sale and our more expensive.
They have enough hurdles to jump through, providing them with some of the basic supplies such as canary colored paper and craft supplies such as paper and markers for projects allows them to have less hurdles to face in order to have a productive time in the classroom. These students need to be able to participate in class activities without the fear of finances.
Using the dry erase board during class is essential. Students use it daily. They learn what will be happening in class for the day, they get vital information, and they use it during lessons to interact with each other and the instructor. Without the supplies to use and upkeep the white boards and essential part of the daily lesson and strategy will become unusable.
Printing out an essay or research to finish a class project should be second nature. There should be no restrictions, however, during the budget process the first thing cut is the printing budget. Students are charged up to .25 a page to print.
The majority of my students are from low income homes. They are good kids, who do not come from great backgrounds. They need every advantage they can to succeed. They thrive on interaction, on success, and must have state of the art knowledge to prepare them for the careers of tomorrow. This access to technology does them very little good if they cannot afford to print out the information that they need.
My students have a portion of the tools they need to be successful. We have a library with computer access. In this library they can do research, they can type up their essays and research papers, but they cannot print these assignments off unless they bring cash with them. .
We have economically disadvantaged students, academically advanced students, international baccalaureate students, special education students, English language learners, military family members, athletes, and AVID students. Every single one of them deserve the right to be able to print at school as they need to without financial considerations.
I want to continue to take away that barrier. My students are be able to email me their assignments, from any class, and I print them out in my classroom, free of charge. However, I need toner. We have almost exhausted the toner I currently have after the use from this school year. With finals coming, more is needed to continue this free service for them.
Twenty five cents does not seem to be a large amount, but it is. A quarter will get a student to and from school on the city bus. A quarter allows a student on reduced lunch to purchase their lunch or breakfast. Many of my students have a quarter with them, but it is their budget for the day. They should not have to decide between a bus ride, a meal, and printing their classwork. The library charges, I don't. Help me continue to help my students.
Have you seen kids as they are playing with the newest technology? They know how to use it almost instantaneously. What they don't realize is that they are learning at the same time as they are playing. It is so great to see them enjoying the learning process.
Our student body is diverse. We have military kids, International Baccalaureate students, AVID students, students of all levels of learning, students from many walks of life, however the majority of the students have one thing that they cannot overcome without education; they come from economically disadvantaged homes. Our school works hard to promote learning across the board. Our students have risen to meet these demands, we have had an increase in students taking more advanced classes. The only thing they have asked of us it to not just stand there and lecture. To make the lessons as entertaining as well as educational.
Having technology in the classroom that can grab and hold their attention is wonderful. iPod Touches have the amazing capability to draw students in. They have used them already for entertainment. It is another modality to capture student attention and engage them in learning. The iPod will allow students to take a hands-on approach in that they can manipulate information, while having fun. Having the technology at our disposal, instantly, will make lessons more meaningful and transitions run smooth. All of this impacts the students education and their life.
Please help my classroom compete with the world the students are accustomed too. I see students harnessing the technology everyday, it is second nature to them. Help me harness this technology in a way that makes learning through the iPod second nature as well.
My students come from economically, disadvantaged homes. Providing them with the opportunity to compete in the US First Robotics Competition has inspired many of them with an interest in science, math, and computer science.

Our school works hard to promote learning across the board. Our students have risen to meet these demands. The only thing they have asked of us it to not just stand there and lecture. To make the lessons as entertaining as well as educational. Our robotics team takes the lessons learned in class and connects them to real world challenges.
It doesn't matter where you come from, building a robot is just plain cool. Being able to build a robot requires certain things. Two things needed are a will and desire. These have been provided by my students. They have both of them. What we don't have is a a white board to use during the group meeting for designing the robot. Our current classroom has an old chalk board that isn't fit to write on. They have been using pen and paper, but it isn't proving to be effective or efficient when we are brain storming and designing as a whole group.
Inspiring students, no matter where they are from, to take serious looks at science and math professions is very tough. Giving students the ability to create robots, to use the knowledge they are learning in science and math classes is a rare opportunity. Not having the materials should not be an issue. Please help us bring our students in contact with the professions of tomorrow, today.
There is so much technology out there. That's the problem, its all out there, not in our classroom. The technology we do have does not have the ability to access some of the educational and engaging applications that are available.

Having the technology in the room to grab and hold their attention is wonderful. SMART boards have the amazing capability to draw students in. It is another modality to capture student attention and engage them in learning. The SMART slate allows students to take a hands-on approach in that they can manipulate information. Having the technology at our disposal, instantly, will make lessons more meaningful and transitions run smooth. All of this impacts the students education.
Please help my classroom leap into the world of technology! Your donations will allow my students to have everyday hands on access to the SMART board, through the use of the SMART Slate, to take their learning to the next level. I have seen the impact that a SMART board, alone, can have on a student's learning potential and your donation can take that level of impact on my students to an even higher level.
We have been very fortunate and received a SMART Board for our classroom. After setting it up today we learned we need to secure the projector we have for it at just the right distance and angle from the board to use it properly. My students are also in need of pencils to take notes.

Now that we have the technology in the room we have learned that we need somewhere to place a projector to use for the SMART Board that won't allow the projector to move and create a problem with the calibration.
Please help my classroom continue their leap into the world of technology! Your donation will allow my students to have everyday access to a SMART board to take their learning to the next level. Being able to make the projector stationary for use with the SMART Board is imperative to it being used properly. Students are always in need of pencils and the DVD is imperative to view videos.
Do you know what it is like to sit for an exam that will determine if you are going to graduate from high school? Imagine what it must be like taking these high stakes tests without having had breakfast hat morning or access to a snack during.
Our student body is very diverse. We have military kids, International Baccalaureate students, AVID students, students of all levels of learning, students from many walks of life, however the majority of the students have one thing that pulls them all together; they come from economically disadvantaged homes. Our school works hard to promote learning across the board. Our students have risen to meet these demands.
Our students have risen to meet the demands of learning only to find themselves faced with the daunting task of passing 5 high stakes tests. They pass the tests, all of them, or the do not graduate. It does not matter how well they did in class, how much they learned, if on the day the sit for a test they are hungry and unable to concentrate because of hunger.
Students work hard to get to this point, FEED USA has stepped in to help them over another hurdle to success, hunger. Providing them with snack and/or a small meal during the testing day will help them concentrate on the task at hand, passing these important tests.
FEED USA has stepped in to fill a need, a student's hunger. Being hungry strips a student of their concentration. High stakes testing is something a student has to conquer in order to graduate from high school. By filling the student's need of sustenance on this extremely important day, you and FEED USA will help a student fulfill the graduation requirements of passing these tests. Hunger should not be a hurdle for any student.
Having enough money for lunch can be difficult for our students. Asking them to purchase notebooks for every single class is, for some, cruel. They have the desire to learn, but they lack the supplies needed to fulfill many of the class requirements. They need to be able to get these supplies.
The only thing they have asked of us it to not just stand there and lecture. To make the lessons as entertaining as well as educational.
Our district has begun using interactive notebooks. In many of our classes it is required of our students to use them every single day. Our students use these notebooks to take notes, place worksheets, place drawings, lab finding, tables, graphic organizer, any thing done in class gets stapled, glued, or taped into this notebook. They fill up fast and each class requires a notebook to be used only for that class. Although we go through supplies, it has really increased student interaction with the materials learned and therefore increased subject retention.
By increasing subject retention we are increasing the knowledge the student has of the subject. This carries over into increased test scores, better classroom behavior, and higher grades over all. Our students see the difference and feel the difference. They are able to feel success because they are successful in their classes. Lacking the ability to purchase supplies should not stop them from achieving. Help me give them the notebooks they need.
Do you remember trying to create the perfect projects for school? Coloring, using markers, maybe stencils, but still not getting it right? Computers allow our students to create profession projects, if we have the printers available to produce color.
Our student body is very diverse. We have military kids, International Baccalaureate students, AVID students, special education students, foreign exchange students, students from many walks of life. However, the majority of the students have one thing that pulls them all together; they come from economically disadvantaged homes. Our school works hard to promote learning across the board. Our students have risen to meet these demands.
One of the things our students ask of us is to not just stand there and lecture. To make the lessons as entertaining as well as educational. One of the problems with this is the cost of providing ink and paper, especially colored ink. Our school only has two colored printers on the entire campus. One of them is in the library and the students are charged .25 for each copy they make with color on it.
When trying to incorporate projects into the curriculum, it is hard to justify putting students into a position in which they have to pay for several sheets of paper in order to create an acceptable professional looking project.
We are working to raise the bar of expectations for our students. When we assign projects we want them to take pride in them. They must be expected to produce a project that they would be proud to show and would be acceptable in the professional world. Not having the tools to make this possible isn't right. In order to raise the expectations, we must provide the opportunity to meet those expectations.
My students come from economically, disadvantaged homes. Providing them with the opportunity to compete in the US First Robotics Competition has inspired many of them with an interest in science, math, and computer science.
The students can be a little tough, but beneath this exterior are kids who just need that added push to excel. Our students come from many different walks of life. We service students who are economically disadvantaged, immigrants from other countries, military students, and homeless students. We have students though who give everything they can to their education.
Students have been inspired and an interest in robotics fostered because of working with a robot. Working with a robot has given students a reason to pay attention in their science and math classes. Working with the robot has given students a real life connection with what they are learning in class.
It doesn't matter where you come from, building a robot is just plain cool. Being able to build a robot requires certain things. Two things needed are a will and desire. These have been provided by my students. They have both of them. What we don't have is a computer that can handle the software needed to design and build the robot. Our current classroom computer won't allow my students to install the software, AutoCad Inventor. They need this program to design the robot in 3D.
My students need a computer that is capable of handling the software that is required for the robot programming and designing software.

The students of today are being trained for careers that we haven't even begun to imagine. A student who is currently attending high school could be the inventor of the prosthetic device that allows an amputee to feel their toes or finger tips again. The student of today, is the leader of tomorrow. Without your investment today, what will tomorrow be like?
There is so much technology out there. That's the problem, its all out there, not in our classroom.
The only thing they have asked of us it to not just stand there and lecture. To make the lessons as entertaining as well as educational.
Having the technology in the room to grab and hold their attention is wonderful. SMART boards have the amazing capability to draw students in. It is another modality to capture student attention and engage them in learning. The SMART board allows students to take a hands-on approach in that they can manipulate information. Having the technology at our disposal, instantly, will make lessons more meaningful and transitions run smooth. All of this impacts the students education.
Please help my classroom leap into the world of technology! Your donations will allow my students to have everyday access to a SMART board to take their learning to the next level. I have seen the impact that a SMART board can have on a student's learning potential and your donation can bring that same impact to my students.
My students come from economically, disadvantaged homes. Many of them have a hard time getting the pens, pencils, and paper that they need for school. There are many hurdles they have to jump through due to their economical problems.
The students can be a little tough, but beneath this exterior are kids who just need that added push to excel.
Without the supplies students are year behind the curve and feel as if they never get caught up. This really does have an impact on their self esteem. They don't feel as if they have the same opportunities as those who have supplies.
Research has shown that taking notes on canary colored paper helps the note taker remember the information they were writing down.
Not being able to bring in supplies such as colored paper or markers should not stop them. It won't stop them with your support!
The students of today are the leaders of tomorrow. The idea of "pay it forward" means something to them. They realize that things that are given to them have an impact on them and do come at a cost. A bill that needs to be paid in the future by helping out people who are less fortunate than they are. Students of today need to be invested in so that they can have the opportunity to invest in future generations.
Have you ever sat in a plastic chair, only to have that chair pinch you because of a crack? How about write on a desk top that isn't smooth or wobbles while you write? My students face these distractions every time they sit in a desk.
The majority of my students are from low income homes. They are good kids, who do not come from great backgrounds. They need every advantage they can to succeed. They thrive on interaction, on success, and must have every opportunity to be successful in gaining the knowledge to prepare them for the careers of tomorrow. This includes being comfortable in their surroundings.
The majority of my students come from low income homes. There are many in our school that come from military families, from single family homes, from homes where education takes a back seat to trying to put food on the table, and where because of these things, and many others, they do not get much one on one attention at home. Having the ability to give them a sense of ownership in the new desks and security that the desks won't fall on them, pinch them, or wobble when they lean to write will make a difference in their attitudes.
Creating an comfortable environment in my classroom is something I strive for every year. Trying to decide what to put on the walls is something I can control. Adding extra lighting, I can control. I cannot control the condition of the furniture I receive from the school. With new desks my students would have the proper sitting arrangements, a better overall classroom environment, and a reason to have pride in the classroom and ownership.
Printing out an essay or research to finish a class project should be second nature. There should be no restrictions, however, during the budget process the first thing cut is the printing budget. Students are now charged up to .25 a page to print.
Our students are charged for the things that they print out.
I want to take away that barrier. My students will be able to email me their assignments, from any class, and I can print them out in my classroom, free of charge. However, I need toner.
Many of my students only have computer access at school. The majority of my students are from low income homes that cannot afford computers, yet to succeed they cannot afford not to have access to them.

Currently there are no student computers in my classroom. I would love to have easy access to computers for my students. There is a space and money issue. Even if the funding was available for computers, the space isn't. I have a small classroom, as do most of my colleagues. There just isn't enough space or funding for every student to have access to computers.
Tablets can solve many issues for my students and I. We do not need any additional space to use tablets in the classroom. Tablets are smaller, but more versatile. Tablets can be used just as a desktop, but with enhancements. Students can read books on the tablet, use applications to further their learning, research a topic, create presentations, and so much more.
Thanks to the generosity of people just like you, our classroom has an LCD projector. In order to properly use it and secure it, to prevent it from walking away, we need the hardware to mount it to our ceiling and the speakers to hear the sound.

It currently doesn't have the proper mounting, thus quality suffers.
Having the ability to properly use and secure the technology that we have been given will allow us to keep it in proper, safe, working condition for years to come. These materials will maximize the opportunities to use this new technology, thus maximizing the students learning.
Have you ever tried getting a student to read, because they want to, not because they have to? Getting a student to desire to read is a battle all teachers take part in. The more they read, the better a reader they become.
My students come from high poverty backgrounds. Many of my students will be first generation high school graduates, and others don't have anyone in their family who went on to college. Family members are so busy worried about making a living that they aren't able to concentrate on the education of the children. They can read, does it matter if they like to read, or how well they can read? Actually it does.
Reluctant readers need to be reached. Technology allows reluctant readers to "read" in a cool way.
It matters how well my students read because it is an indicator of how successful they will be in post-secondary education. It is also an indicator of how financially successful they will be. It is hard to negotiate in the business world if you cannot read the words on the contracts.
As a teacher, I am not only preparing them to pass my class, by I am also trying to give them the foundation to be a successful and productive citizen after they leave high school.
By having access to a Nook eReader, I can encourage the struggling reader in a less threatening way to read. The idea of opening a book can cause anxiety in the struggling reader. By having the option of using a Nook for that student, the student has the option to read in a less stressful way. The goal is to reach out to every single student in any way that will enforce the importance of reading, encourage them to read, and to improve their knowledge.
Getting students to read is a challenge. They are faced with technology in every aspect of life; school cannot be any different. There is a stigma to picking up a book for some, but that stigma isn't there if they pick up a Nook. My students will be reading, that is what matters. A Nook in place of a book will get them to read. Help me make better readers out of them.
Have you ever tried to have conferences with students in a space that couldn't fit both of you? Ever try to help a student work on individual assignments on a space that was inadequate? It is very difficult to work in an inadequate space.
The majority of my students come from low income homes. There are many in our school that come from military families, from single family homes, from homes where education takes a back seat to trying to put food on the table, and where because of these things, and many others, they do not get much one on one attention at home. Giving them one on one instruction is not only a joy for me, but it a positive reinforcement for them that someone does care. One on one instruction allows them to ask questions they would not ask in front of the class.
Having a space to provide one on one instruction is essential. These students need a place in which they can come place there book and paper down, pull up a chair, and with a little room and privacy ask about their work. Struggling students do not want it made public that they are struggling. Getting them to come up to an area where they obviously stick out is tough. Imagine standing next to the teacher at a podium to ask a question because the desk space is too small, too cracked, weak, and falling apart. Imagine trying to balance your book, your paper, and ask the question without grabbing everyone's attention in the room that you are standing there. For these reasons, I am requesting 1 desk to be used as a student-teacher meeting place.
A workspace that is adequate for my students and myself would allow us to hold one on one meetings where there would be enough space to spread out the book, and the paper, to pull up a chair and not stand in awkwardness. We need a place to meet, share, learn, and be successful by making connections.
Taking higher level classes requires the ability to be organized. Seven classes, after school activities, community service, work schedules, due dates, and contacts for research are only a few things these students need help keeping track of.
Over 80% of our high school population are students from low income families. This doesn't mean they don't have the ability to learn at the higher levels, but it does mean they need a little help making ends meet. They have busy lives. Many of them work, not for spending cash, but for food and rent. Getting these kids to take the advanced classes is tough; keeping them in them can be even tougher. Keeping them organized keeps them in the classroom. They know and see what is coming up, what is due, when it is due, where they are suppose to be, and when.
I am looking to provide planners for as many of my students as I possibly can. The school district used to provide them, but with budget cuts, the planners have gone away.
Planners allow the students to keep organized, not only in school, but in life as well. Keeping them on top of their deadlines is a key piece in keeping them from feeling disillusioned with taking challenging classes. Teaching them to rise to the challenge of education includes teaching them to keep themselves organized and on task.
Less than 80% of high school students across the country graduate from high school. Less than 30% of those students challenged themselves to take advanced courses in high school. Of those 30%, the majority go on to college or the military. The statistics show that students, irregardless of their income status, are more likely to go on to higher education if they are challenged in high school. Help me help my students face those challenging courses, organized.

It is tough providing supplies for so many of my students who cannot provide for themselves. I have purchased many supplies out of my own pocket, but it is getting tougher. Pencil sharpeners break from heavy use, tissues are needed for the sniffles, and the school doesn't provide these.
My students come from economically disadvantaged homes. Many of them have a hard time getting the pens, pencils, and paper that they need for school. Asking them to provide tissues and and other small things. The small things add up fast. There are many hurdles they have to jump through due to their economical problems.
They have enough hurdles to jump through, providing them with some of the basic supplies allows them to have one less hurdle to face in order to have a productive time in the classroom.
The students can be a little tough, but beneath this exterior are kids who just need that added push to excel.
Without the supplies on the first day of school, students begin the year behind the curve and feel as if they never get caught up. This really does have an impact on their self esteem. During these first days they are filling in paperwork for their classes, being asked to bring in supplies, and many of them just don't have the funds to do it.
The students of today are the leaders of tomorrow. The idea of "pay it forward" means something to them. They realize that things that are given to them have an impact on them and do come at a cost. History isn't what it use to be. We no longer have to wish for funding for trips to historical places, we can bring them to the students. Bringing the history alive makes it more relevant to them. Bring geography to them would allow them to see the places we discuss.
My student attend a high school that is faced with looming budget cuts. It is an urban school with a high poverty population. It is in a school district that has been working on putting technology in the hands of science and math teachers, but have left the other subjects to find other ways to reach out to students who expect us to deliver technology filled lessons.
With the addition of a LCD projector my classroom will be one step closer to having a door to anywhere in the world. A projector will allow my students to see the sights of Washington DC without going there, something they cannot afford to dream of. An instant window to the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Islands, the Arctic Circle, or the hills of Kentucky will allow my students to see the geography and cultures we are studying, thus allowing them better comprehension and understanding.
I believe every child has the right to learn and to expect nothing less than our best. This tool will open up the endless possibilities of showing the students places we could never take them physically. The possibility of viewing live footage or having distant learning opportunities would be instantly obtainable with a projector in the classroom.
The FIRST Robotics competition includes students from all ability levels. The portion of the competition we are focusing on with this request is the spirit portion. Students will create banners, flags, and buttons to show team spirit. They will swap buttons with teams from throughout the country.
My students are tackling this large project with a very little budget. Every little bit counts for us. We did not fund out about this opportunity as soon as other teams and have not been able to secure sponsorships or mass funding. The typical season can run a team more than $20,000. We have less than $11,000. This machine would help the spirit portion of our team to begin to fully prepare for competition. Their goal is to create 2000 buttons.
During the course of this competition my students have been pulled beyond their comfort zones and have learned about technology and cooperation while learning to compete.
FIRST Robotics inspires students to think about science, math, technology, business, funding, and team unity. It involves the student as a whole. We are building a robot, yes, but we are building futures first. The students will learn things through participation in this program that will last them a lifetime. It will allow students to have contact with professionals in fields they have never considered. It will provide students an opportunity to be successful.
The entire competition puts the students under a time limit to create a budget, a business plan, build a robot, and show their spirit. The competition is a mix between a rock star, a super bowl, and an academic meet.
High school students have few opportunities to participate in something that is on this grand of scale that does not require them to be super athletes. This competition requires them to want... to want to learn, to want to work, to want to succeed, to want to face a challenge, to want to step outside their comfort zone and embrace science, math, technology, business, and each other.
Not being able to have a pencil to lend a student is tough. However, I cannot continue to purchase pencils and paper. Students need to have pencils and paper to do their work, but with budget cuts we have been told to limit our use.
I have good kids, but they are financially challenged. They cannot always afford to purchase some of the basic necessities for school. Many will not admit they cannot afford to purchase pens, pencils, and paper. Instead they will act as if they don't care. They do care. Many will come up to me asking to borrow a pencil and then ask if they can take it with them because they don't have one. I need to be able to provide for them without worrying about my supply running short or how much it is going to cost to replace the items I have given away. We need pencils and paper.
Without paper and pencils it is really difficult to determine what a child has learned. Attempting to give quizzes or tests, trying to get students to take Cornell Notes, giving them copies of maps to do (Geography Class), or even to copy off articles for them to read is something that becomes a process in which we must determine if the paper we will use is not only available, but if it is absolutely necessary to use it. We have to cut back on the amount of material we give our students above and beyond the book, even though research shows that providing additional reading and materials that relates the lesson to real life for the students allows them to connect better with it.
Students shouldn't have to be concerned with budget cuts. Teachers shouldn't have to look at lessons as if it is an economical feasibility test. Many teachers have to determine if they have the supplies available for a lesson. By helping me get these items, you will be helping me not to have to determine if the lessons are economically feasible. They will allow me to just be a teacher, to impact my students by allowing them to have the materials necessary to further their learning process.
